Just received mine today, and on first inspection, the leather doesn't appear up-to-snuff. It feels plasticy on the grain side and sandpaper-like on the flesh side. Might be real leather, but certainly doesn't feel like it. I think the grain may have been sanded down and coated with plastic, but I am not prepared to say, as I am not a professional and hold only a layman's knowledge on leather working. This observation only comes from the "general feel", as well as the lack of lightening up when the leather is scratched (See images), something typical of full-grain leather, especially well-esteemed and well tanned varieties of such. The pictures on the listing show a more leathery look, especially on the "worn" ones, that is missing in the example in my hand. The design is great, small, and perfect for a front pocket wallet. My only gripe is with the quality. I'd advise not to buy this particular wallet and look out for something similar with better quality materials. Our goal with every product we send out is that the customer is 100% satisfied with the entire process of interacting with our store, and I'm sorry that was not the case with your order.
I do want to confirm that the leather we use is indeed full-grain, 100% vegetable tanned leather from one of the most reputable tanneries in the world, Wickett & Craig Tannery. At no point was anything sanded down or coated in anything. The Buck Brown leather simply has a waxy finish on top of the unaltered surface of the leather. This is done at the tannery during the tanning process. The waxy finish helps protect the leather from drying out and lengthens its lifespan. I needed a nice small wallet for my front pocket. The little Louis is great. It can hold a couple bills and the snap is great. Something I never expected was how many dudes would compliment my wallet. It's been up to line 3 people a week. The patina after 6 months makes me very happy to have a beautiful one of a kind wallet. I think it will last a very long time.
