July Product Drop

For this month's special edition release, we’re working with a leather that’s as rich in history as it is in character: Horween Waxed Flesh Chromexcel. This isn’t a common material — and that’s part of what makes it special. It’s produced in small batches, using time-intensive methods that date back over a century.

What Is Waxed Flesh?

Unlike most leathers you see, waxed flesh is made by finishing the flesh side of the hide — the side that’s usually hidden or placed inward. It’s heavily waxed, which gives it a slightly glossy, almost damp-looking surface that starts matte and dark but becomes more expressive with use. Over time, it burnishes at the edges and reveals lighter tones underneath, developing a deep, contrasting patina.

It has a unique feel: dense, velvety — and it softens with age as it gains a natural luster from handling.

Understanding Chromexcel

Chromexcel is one of Horween’s signature leathers, known for its durability, pull-up, and rich finish. It’s a combination-tanned leather — meaning it undergoes both chrome tanning (for flexibility and softness) and vegetable re-tanning (for structure and depth). After tanning, the hides are “hot stuffed” with a blend of oils and waxes, which gives them that signature feel and long-term resilience.

The waxed flesh version takes this even further by applying that treatment to the outer, roughout side, creating a rugged but refined texture that wears in beautifully.

About Horween

Based in Chicago and family-run since 1905, Horween Leather Co. is one of the oldest continuously operating tanneries in the United States. They're known for their commitment to traditional techniques and high-quality hides, used in everything from NFL footballs to luxury shoes.

Their production process is slower than most — intentionally. Chromexcel, for example, takes nearly a month to complete. That time allows the leather to absorb oils deeply and develop the qualities that make it so versatile and long-lasting.

We're so excited to get these into your hands. The drop is happening on Saturday, July 19th at Noon EST. There will be 122 wallets available showcasing three colors: burgundy, black, and natural.
