I’ve carried a minimalist wallet for about 10 years now. I’ve been looking for a high-quality, leather, minimalist wallet for years and I finally found the one!

I rarely write reviews, but this experience truly deserves one.

I love high-quality leather wallets and have collected quite a few, yet I'm still searching for "the one." After seeing Lost Dutchman Leathers' Big Finn 2 advertised everywhere, I spent weeks comparing similar European alternatives. None quite matched its design and layout. When a $50 discount came along, I finally placed an order: brown leather with red stitching.

I was a little hesitant. Ordering from the US to Germany can be complicated, and I'd read some reviews criticizing rough edges and uneven stitching. Still, I decided to give it a chance.

One detail bothered me: I'm left-handed, so I'd ideally need the bill opening on the opposite side. Since these wallets are advertised as handmade, I asked whether a mirrored version might be possible.

The incredibly friendly support team explained that this wasn't currently an option, but offered to pass my suggestion along as feedback for future models. Fair enough!

Price, Shipping, and Import Fees

The wallet cost €110.79 including shipping after the discount. Import charges added another €29.72 on delivery, bringing the total to €140.51 (around $157.26).

That's a lot for a wallet, but reasonable for quality leather and handcraftsmanship.

Shipping took October 5–22, which I consider perfectly fine for a US-to-Germany delivery. Import fees aren't the manufacturer's fault anyway.

The Surprise That Made My Day ❤️

And then came the surprise that made me write this review.

SOMEONE ACTUALLY MADE MY WALLET WITH THE OPENING ON THE OTHER SIDE!

Despite being told that customization wasn't officially available, someone had taken my request to heart and made a mirrored Big Finn 2. You can see it in my photo.

Nobody had promised this. Nobody had to do it. Yet someone took the time to make a small change that means a huge amount to me.

I honestly can't remember the last time a company made me feel so valued as a customer.

In a world where people often feel like nothing more than order numbers, this was genuinely special. It also says a lot about the human craftsmanship behind these wallets.

That alone deserves five stars!

Quality and First Impressions

My first impression is excellent. The leather feels fantastic, the wallet looks beautiful, and the construction seems solid.

One edge isn't quite as cleanly skived as the others, but that's a minor detail and honestly nitpicking.

I'll need more time to judge durability. I'm particularly curious how the two punched quick-access openings hold up without reinforcement. Not because they look defective, but because those spots naturally take extra stress.

A Little Complaint from Europe 🇪🇺

Americans, your bills are simply too small! 🤣

Your dollars look great, but unfortunately, I can't shrink our euros.

A €20 note barely fits the bill compartment, while a €50 note doesn't. I knew this before ordering, so it's not a surprise. Still, a slightly more euro-friendly version would be wonderful!

I even have a few ideas for improvements and would happily share them if the team is interested.

I love the design and feel of my Big Finn 2, but above all, I'm grateful to the person who went out of their way to fulfill a left-handed customer's request from across the Atlantic.

That's the kind of customer service you remember. And that's exactly why I'm writing this review.

I just received my first Lost Dutchman wallet and I feel like I have a new friend. That may sound a little corny, but my wallet becomes part of me. They Lost Dutchman Big Finn 2 is the perfect size to keep in my front pocket and the compartments are ideal for my 9 crediit cards/ID, etc.. The leather is high quality and has that new wallet smell that I love. This i a great product and I cant wait to shop for Christmas presents for friends and family.

As my title says, I've owned most of the modern EDC wallets you're probably considering, and I'm telling you: save yourself some time and just get The Big Finn 2 or another wallet from Lost Dutchman Leather.

The metal ones, even the ones with a thin leather coating on the outside, scratch up your cards and leave a black gunk on them (wish I could tell you what that gunk was, but every one I've used did it!)

The minimalist "leather" ones are top grain leather so the don't have the quality or the durability of a full grain leather wallet, and use gimmicks like magnets that leave marks on your cards, are prone to failure, and risk messing with their strips.

The Big Finn 2 looks amazing. Like it's clearly a high quality wallet, one that will last me for the foreseeable future. I'm actually looking forward to it breaking in and having the patina come in on it, so I took pictures when I first got it to compare it to how it's going, and only a month in and I'm already starting to see some change! Pro tip - Avoid your black or brown wallet tendencies and get the Russet color and watch the dramatic transformation as it patinas over time!

The wallet is also incredibly practical and functional. For context, I travel a lot for work, so I love this wallet for a number of reasons:

-It's profile is perfect, where I don't feel like my front pocket is bulging when I front pocket carry it, but I would definitely notice if it was lifted out.
- I love the inner wallet divider, because I'll put my ID up front for ease of access at airports, hotels, etc, and have my cards right behind it for purchases, insurance cards, etc.
- The optional back wallet slot was one of the main reasons I even looked at the wallet in the first place, because I got tired of having to open my wallet in hotels to keep fishing my room key card in and out. Works extremely well for this purpose, or for any other card you'll use often enough that you don't want to have to open your wallet for it.
- I don't carry a ton of cash normally, but I do love having the wallet equipped to handle any amount of cash I'd need, fully extended if I preferred to carry it that way, when I go on vacations, street festivals, state fairs, and other places where cash is king. Compared to some of the minimalist wallets that can hold maybe 4 bills folded, this is nice not having to worry about it.
- As mentioned above, the wallet's closing feature is simple and not prone to failure. The wallet's flap is tucked into a strap of full grain leather that is hand stitched onto the wallet. Super easy to open, and works in such a way that it can accommodate more cards/cash or even taller cards such a business cards, while still securing everything.

I've only owned The Big FInn 2, so I can't comment on specifics of the other individual wallets Lost Dutchman makes, but with this as an example of their product quality, I would encourage you to consider their wallets over any of the gimmicky EDC wallets you're probably considering. I've tried them. They don't work.

The Big Finn 2 just works, looks amazing while doing so, and will continue to do so for years and years to come.

Absolutely the best wallet I have ever owned!! Holds a ton of cash and all my cards and I use the 2nd slot for my business cards… couldn’t ask for a better made wallet!! Looking forward to the years of patina it will acquire.

Don't get me wrong, I love my new customer Big Finn 2. I had to dock the review one star because they forgot to add my Monogram which I paid extra for. After waiting about a week for a reply via email, they did give me a $20 credit to use on the website for my next purchase. (The Monogram was a $15 charge)

Again, I love the wallet and I will likely be picking up a Finnigan for days I don't need to carry cash.

I’ve only had this wallet for about 2-3 weeks but I absolutely love the build and quality. Feels good in hand, feels good in the pocket. Best wallet i’ve ever had. Russet is a great color for this wallet. Can’t wait to see how it changes with time. After owning it for a few now I decided to not use card pocket on the outside… imo it feels better without the card while in pant pocket. Maybe next time I will try V1. I do have a suggestion, not sure if the team will see but what if you guys add an option at time of purchase where you’re able to choose how the wallet is built; for a righty or a lefty person? I believe imo taking money out through the left side would be more pleasing for myself. All personal preference ofc. Thanks for reading

I gotta say, I'm impressed. It's a weird wallet but it really comfortable in hand and in the pockets. Great leather work, good stitching. I think that if you're into leather wallets, this is one, you need to check out.

This is the second wallet that I bought. It’s the best wallet I have ever owned. You can fit a fisher space pen in it. I have been looking for a wallet like this for years. I found one years ago but not the same thing. The quality of this product is second to none. I’m seeing similar wallets now on social media but from what I can see the quality is not the same.
You guys have it going on.
I’m going to order a few more to give a Christmas gifts. I can’t imagine getting a nicer gift for the holidays.

I received my Big Finn 2 in the mail and have carried it roughly a week or so, and the leather ripped where the little holes are on the back of it. I got in touch with the company and while it was a little bit of some back and forth they covered this under their warranty and are standing by their product and their warranty!!
